Here are a few No Nos that we beg you all to follow, if you want to create a nice homely Scandinavian inspired home:
1. Do not buy things that are made to look old – Buy authentic vintage pieces. As in anything in existance, reach full authenticity in the whole spectra of life, should be the main goal. Shabby Chique was a long time very popular, people sanded, scratched with chain, polished with coffee, all to make new things look old. That trend has fortunately since long left.
2. No Replicas. There are many, especially mid century designer items that are unfortunately being replicated. Most of us would lot buy a fake designer bag, so lets implement that also with furniture. It is predictable and it takes away the beauty and the feel of being unique. Secondly, do you really want to own
3. Its not all about pine panels and pastells. Do mix textures and colors. The beauty in Scandinavian lies in the focus on contrast. Contrast in textures, materials and colors.
4. No built ins. We know its very big here, and we understand the practicality. But if you want to create a real Scandi home, thats not the way. No one we know have built ins, apart from warderobes. Please use open shelving instead, most things we have inside the cupboards are very pretty. If not, use baskets. This will add much character.
5. More to come!
Let us know if you agree with this. What is your take on the misconception?
